How to Sign Out of Your Amazon Prime Account

Understanding Amazon Prime Account Sign Out

Signing out of your Amazon Prime account means ending your current session on a device or browser. This is different from canceling your Prime membership. When you sign out, you disconnect from your account but keep your membership active. Your Prime benefits remain available, and you can sign back in whenever you want. Signing out is useful when you share a device with family members, use a public computer, or simply want to protect your account privacy.

Amazon Prime accounts store payment information, order history, and personal preferences. When you remain signed in on a shared device, other users can access this information. Signing out prevents unauthorized access to your account details and purchase history. This basic security step takes only a few seconds but offers important protection for your personal and financial information.

Your Amazon Prime membership includes services like Prime Video streaming, free two-day shipping on eligible purchases, Prime Music, and other features. All these services link to your account. When you sign out, the next person using that device cannot access your account unless they have your login information. If you want someone else to watch Prime Video on a shared TV, they would need to either sign in with their own account or you would need to sign back in for them.

Different devices handle sign-outs differently. Phones, tablets, computers, and smart TVs all have their own sign-out processes. The Amazon website works differently from the Amazon mobile app, and the Prime Video app operates separately from the main Amazon account. Understanding these differences helps you sign out completely from the devices you actually use.

Practical takeaway: Sign out of your Amazon account on any shared or public device to keep your personal information private. This is especially important after shopping online or streaming content on a device that others can access.

How to Sign Out on Website and Desktop

Signing out of Amazon on a computer or laptop using a web browser takes just a few steps. Start by going to the Amazon website and looking at the top right corner of the page. You will see a section that says "Hello" followed by your name or "Sign In." Click on that area, and a dropdown menu will appear with several options. One of those options will say "Sign Out." Click on "Sign Out," and you will be immediately disconnected from your account.

The exact appearance of this menu depends on which Amazon service you are using. On the main Amazon shopping site, the menu appears next to the shopping cart icon. On Amazon Prime Video's website, it may appear in a slightly different location, often in the upper right corner near your account name. Some people find it helpful to look for a small profile icon or avatar image, as this often contains the sign-out option.

After you click "Sign Out," the website will redirect you to a page confirming that you have signed out. Your browser may still show the Amazon website, but you are no longer logged in. If you navigate to your account page or try to make a purchase, the website will ask you to sign in again. This confirmation shows that the sign-out was successful.

If you use multiple Amazon services like shopping, Prime Video, or Amazon Music from the same website, signing out once typically signs you out of all of them. However, some services may maintain separate sessions. If you want to be thorough, you can check each service separately to confirm you are signed out. Simply try navigating to an account-specific page and see whether the site asks you to sign in.

It is also worth knowing that Amazon stores information about your device and browser. The next time you visit Amazon, the website may remember that this is your device and may offer to let you sign back in with just one click. This is convenient for personal devices but is another reason to sign out completely on shared computers. If you do not want Amazon to remember your device, you can clear your browser's cookies or use your browser's private or incognito mode when visiting Amazon on a shared computer.

Practical takeaway: To sign out on a desktop or laptop, click your account name in the top right corner of the Amazon website and select "Sign Out" from the dropdown menu. After signing out, the website will confirm your session has ended.

Signing Out on Mobile Devices and Apps

The Amazon mobile app on phones and tablets has a different sign-out process than the website. Open the Amazon app on your device, and look for a menu icon. On most phones, this appears as three horizontal lines (sometimes called a "hamburger menu") in the bottom right or top left corner of the screen. Tap this menu icon to open a list of options. Scroll down through the menu until you locate an option labeled "Settings" or "Account." Tap on that option.

Once you enter the Settings or Account section, you will see various options related to your account. Look for an option that says "Sign Out," "Log Out," or "Logout." The exact wording may vary depending on your device type and app version. When you find it, tap on that option. The app will ask you to confirm that you want to sign out. Confirm your choice, and the app will disconnect you from your account.

After signing out of the Amazon app, you will be returned to a login screen when you open the app next time. Your phone will not automatically log you back in unless you specifically choose to save your login information. This is the main security benefit of signing out on a shared phone or tablet. If someone borrows your device, they cannot access your Amazon account or order history without knowing your login details.

Prime Video has its own separate app that may be installed on your phone or tablet. Even if you sign out of the main Amazon app, you may still be signed in to the Prime Video app. To sign out of Prime Video, open the Prime Video app specifically, find the menu or profile section, look for account settings, and choose the sign-out option there. This ensures complete sign-out across all Amazon services on your mobile device.

Some people use Amazon's website directly on their phone's browser instead of the Amazon app. If you do this, the sign-out process is the same as signing out on a desktop computer. Tap your account name or menu button, select the account option, and choose sign out. Mobile browsers may make this menu harder to find because of the smaller screen, but the steps are identical.

Practical takeaway: In the Amazon app on your phone or tablet, open the menu, go to Settings or Account, and select the sign-out option. Remember that Prime Video has its own separate app, so you may need to sign out of it separately to be fully logged out of all Amazon services.

Signing Out on Smart TVs and Streaming Devices

Smart TVs and streaming devices like Fire TV, Roku, and Apple TV often have Amazon Prime Video installed. Signing out on these devices protects your account if family members or guests have access to your television. The process varies by device type, but the general approach is similar across most platforms. Start by opening the Prime Video app on your TV or streaming device, then look for your account menu or profile section. This is usually found in the top left or top right corner of the screen.

On Amazon Fire TV devices, press the menu button on your remote control. Navigate to "Settings" using the arrow buttons on your remote. Once in Settings, look for "Accounts" or "Your Account" and select it. You will see options related to your account. Find and select "Sign Out" or "Logout." The device will ask you to confirm, and once you do, you will be signed out of Prime Video on that television.

On Roku devices with Prime Video installed, open the Prime Video app and use your remote to navigate to the settings icon, which typically looks like a gear or wrench. In the settings menu, look for an option to manage your account or sign out. The exact menu structure differs from Fire TV but follows similar logic. Use your remote's directional buttons to navigate and the OK button to select options.

For Apple TV and other streaming devices, open Prime Video and look for the profile or account menu. This is often represented by a user icon or silhouette. Select this icon, and you will see account-related options. Look for "Sign Out," "Logout," or "Switch User" depending on your device. Some devices may ask you to confirm the sign-out action with your remote's OK button or a similar command.

It is important to know that signing out of Prime Video on your TV does not affect your account on other devices. You may still be signed in on your phone, tablet, or computer. If you want to completely sign out of all devices, you will need to sign out on each one individually. However, you can also manage active sessions from your Amazon account website by going to your login
